The Strategy
Sigmoid Capital is a Pan Asia investment fund seeking to identify transformational businesses in Asia. "Sigmoidal Curve" means S-curve in math, it represents the type of inflection potentials that we look for in our investments. The strategy is underpinned by long term, fundamental research.
Investment Approach
We look for S-shaped inflections in industry trends or in companies' earnings. We have found that Asian companies, particularly mid-sized Asian companies offer more inefficiencies. Knowing where to look for these mispricings and how to build convictions when these opportunities occur are key success factors for investing.
Our on-the-ground research team and proprietary investment process focus on generating "second level thinking" vs. the market consensus. We believe thinking differently and forming "differentiated views" are crucial for generating consistent alpha.
Our Team
Wendy Chen, Founder and CIO
Wendy Chen is the CIO and portfolio manager for Sigmoid Capital. She has been in the Asia investing business for over 10 years. Prior to Sigmoid Capital, she was Head of Asia at Kingdon Capital, a New York based global long/short equity hedge fund, where she was responsible for the Asia portfolio from 2013 to 2021. Wendy started her career as an analyst at J.P Morgan Singapore. She spent 4 years in Singapore covering Asian companies across J.P Morgan and Morgan Stanley and developed a deep local network.
Born and raised in Shanghai, Wendy is native in Mandarin and fluent in English. She has a bachelor's degree from Fudan University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Paul Guggenheimer, CFO and CCO
Paul Guggenheimer is the CFO of Sigmoid Capital. Prior to joining Sigmoid Capital, Paul had over 15 years of CFO experience for Asia long/short equity hedge funds. Paul was the CFO for Kylin Management, a $2.5bn AUM Asia long/short hedge fund in New York from 2005 to 2016, where he was responsible for all non-investment functions from fund accounting, operations, compliance to investor relations.
Paul started his career as an accountant at Price Waterhouse LLP. He has a Bachelor and an MBA from New York University. Paul is a certified public accountant with New York State Public Accountancy.
